Spam Filters - Links
A Spam Filter is a software tool for blocking unsolicited junk email (a.k.a. Spam). Spam filters can be set up at the individual computer level, so that junk e-mails are sorted out into a separate junk e-mail folder, or else at the network level, so that junk e-mail is blocked from entering the local network.
Spam.   The plague of today's email inbox, Spam refers to unsolicited junk email - generally advertising for some product sent wide-scale to a mailing list or newsgroup. There are a number of ways you can find yourself on a spammer's email list; including signing up for newsletters that unscrupulously sell lists of their clients' email addresses, listing your email address on a webpage or newsgroup, or even by choosing an email address that spammers may be able to guess (i.e. CoolCat@hotmail.com).
In 2003, the US government passed legislation (the CAN Spam Act) placing restrictions on spamming, but the laws have yet to be seriously enforced.
