What is Secure E-mail?   Secure e-mail uses encryption technology to prevent your confidential messages from being intercepted and read by third parties. When an e-mail message (or attachment) is encrypted, its contents are essentially scrambled during transit, and can only be descrambled by the end recipient. Almost all secure email services use a public key encryption standard known as open PGP, which when operated properly, is uncrackable.
Secure E-mail Tools.   Secure e-mail services generally offer simple, web-based interfaces similar to Hotmail (which incidentally does not use encryption,) or else offer encryption plug-ins to existing email programs such as Outlook or Eudora.
