Data recovery is the process of salvaging data stored on damaged media, such as hard drives or optical disks. Data Loss on the Rise. Despite the technological advances in durability of storage media, incidents of data loss are on the rise. This increase is in part due to the high data density of today's storage media, resulting in increased sensitivity to disturbances, and at the same time amplifying the consequences of the loss of a single disk or drive.
