Employment law covers issues related to the employer/employee relationship, not including the negotiation process. Employment law covers employee rights, such as minimum wage and protection against discrimination and harassment. In addition, the employee is ensured an environment that is not hazardous to the employee's health or safety.
Employment law is an important are of the law for Human Resource departments to be familiar with, as it addresses how a company may hire and fire workers, as well as what personal information the department may and may not ask of the employee. Human Resource departments must also be aware of the rules regarding overtime, time off, and discrimination.
