Identity Theft

Because of the Internet's relative newness, Internet law is an area of law still in the early phases of development. Because the court has few historical Internet-related cases to which it can look when making decisions, judges must adapt preexisting legal frameworks for use in court rulings related to cyberspace. A number of attorneys now specialize in Internet law, helping clients with cases related to website trademarks and intellectual property rights, email and spam, file sharing, and other cyber-related issues. One high profile example of internet law in action is the music industry's lawsuit against Napster, an online file sharing program accused of facilitating the piracy of music files.
