There are different tax rate schedules for the each filing status: single, head of household, married filing jointly, and married filing separately. Tax schedules are often confused with tax tables. A tax table is a much longer table that lets look up the exact tax paid for a specific amount of taxable income. A tax schedule provides rates to compute the tax on any amount of taxable income. The tax tables are more or less computed from the tax schedule.
