Honest Car Values from Donation Specialists
The Kelley Blue Book valuation is determined based on the model of vehicle, the options included with the vehicle, and the condition of the automobile. It provides three different valuations: the trade-in value, the private party value, and the suggested retail value. The trade-in value is what you can expect to recieve in a trade-in with a dealer. The private party value is the amount you can expect to sell the car to a private party. The suggested retail value is the amount one would expect a dealer to sell the car for.
When donating a car, the IRS requires you to obtain a certified vehicle appraisal if the value you plan to deduct is more than $5,000. You can expect the appraisal to be in line with the private party value reported by the blue book.
